General Information Supported
by: SICC- Italian Society for Chaos and Complexity Directed by: M. di Bernardo, L. Gardini, S. Lenci Aim of the School Recently, much attention has been focused on the analysis and control of nonsmooth and hybrid dynamical systems. These systems are characterised by nonsmooth vector fields and are used to model a wide range of applications. Examples include vibro-impacting mechanical systems, power electronic converters, walking robots, systems with gears and backslash and even regulatory genetic networks in Systems Biology. A pressing open problem is to characterise and investigate their dynamics, particularly the novel bifurcation phenomena they can exhibit that are unique to their nonsmooth nature. The 7th International School “Topics in Non linear Dynamics: NONLINEAR DYNAMICS OF PIECEWISE-SMOOTH DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS ”, supported by the Italian Society for Chaos and Complexity (SICC) is primarily oriented to PhD students, young and experienced researchers and industrialists working in the broad area of engineering, mathematics, physics and applied science. The aim of the school is to introduce participants to both introductory and advanced topics in piecewise-smooth dynamical system theory. The basic theory, analytical tools and numerical methods will be introduced through examples and applications in various areas of Engineering, Physics, Economics and Biology. The official language of the School is English.
